Hope Comes and Goes!

By the title of this post you know what I'm getting at. Hope; a four letter word that means so much to us. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines hope as "to cherish a desire with anticipation: to want something to happen or to be true." We as Christians yearn for God's word to be true, of course! But sometimes we can lose hope.

How long can we posses hope? Is there a reason we can feel hopeless at times?

Yes, definitely! Think about a bath tub. You get the water hot (learning about God's way), put the stopper down (shut out world views), and enjoy the water (hope). But then you get agitated or bored and get out (forgetting about God's promises) and allow the plunge to come up (letting your world of hope be drained to nothing).

What I mean by this is we can be filled with hope and joy of God's love, but slip up and let the world take over our hearts. When we let the world influence us, instead of the Lord, that is when we get bored with God's way of life. As we start to get excitement from the world, the plunge comes up and strips every little bit of hope and yearning away. Keep your spiritual stopper down and instead of listening to the world fill your heart with hope and joy because of God's plan and will. Ephesians 1:17-18 states this,

"that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints." NKJV

God wants us to be filled with wisdom of knowledge of his plan and the hope of his calling. He wants us to understand how spiritually rich we are with hope and understanding!f

So what can you do to do this? For starters in your prayers remember to thank God for all that he has done for you and the blessings he has bestowed on you. To fully understand God's promises read some of them. A good place to start is in Exodus 14 where God promises the Israelite's that he would keep them safe as they journeyed out of Egypt. This is where God does one of his many miracles and parts the red sea! We can be filled with so much hope knowing that God will do whatever it takes to fight for us and our safety. Ask God for hope and understanding of how his promises work in your lives today and in the future.

There are times when we feel as our cup of hope is filled but sometimes it can feel as if we spilled all of it. We have to learn how to keep our cup full and if it does fall over how to refill the emptiness with God's hope not the worlds.

Bottom line: Do not get bored with God! God wants you, yes YOU, to live with hope of the future forever. Bask in the sunlight of the hope of tomorrow.
